Head of the Upper Division
Noble Academy is seeking a Head of the Upper Division (grades 7-12) to begin on July 1, 2012 who is committed to academic excellence, has a proven record of successful school leadership, and the energy, knowledge, and vision to help define educational excellence for students who learn differently.The Head of the Upper Division reports directly to the Head of School and is a vital member of the school's strategic leadership team. The following is a comprehension job description:
Basic Function: The Head of the Upper Division is charged with the responsibility of leading the teaching staff to carry out all the academic responsibilities that relate to the students in grades 7-12. The Head of the Upper Division coordinates curriculum for the division and oversees internal school communication among students, staff, and parents regarding students'academic needs.
Primary Responsibilities:
Curriculum
1. Observes, supervises, and evaluates the staff in the development and implementation of curriculum
2. Leads meetings with upper division staff
3. Reviews content of course organizers, course outline/pacing guides, report cards, Academic Profiles, and academic closeouts
4. Supervises the teaching process, reviews and evaluates the academic programs including the North Carolina Standard Course of Study
Scheduling
1. Assists the Upper Division School Counselor, in devising a master schedule and assigns teaching staff and students to upper division classes
2. Checks throughout the year to make sure students are appropriately placed
3. Generates staff assignments and duties including lunch duty, carpool, etc
Staff the Upper Division
1. Conducts interviews, hires and retains staff with Dean of Students
2. Observes Staff (with the Master Teacher)
3. Evaluates staff
4. Leads the Upper Division teaching staff in the articulation of the school's mission, school goals, course objectives, materials, methods, and means of assessment including MAP testing
5. Oversees the grading and the reporting of standards and methods used by the teaching staff of the upper division.
6. Supplies staff with professional readings
7. Conducts training sessions (with Lower Division Head) and monitors progress for substitute teachers
Upper Division Students' Academic Progress
1. Consults with Head of School, Dean of Students, Assistant Head of School, and staff at large
2. Meets with student and/or parents about student issues related to goodness of fit in current academic placement
3. Communicates with the Dean of Students about student issues that affect student classroom learning
4. Reviews the tracker daily to stay current on all communications as needed
5. Updates student folders on Server
Textbooks and supplementary materials
1. Orders textbooks, materials, and coordinates student supply lists. Stays current with new state adoptions
2. Maintains an accurate spreadsheet that is shared with the business manager about textbooks purchases as well as losses
Assists with the School Accreditation Process as appointed by the Head of School
Meets with Master Teacher quarterly concerning new teachers
Upper Division Writing Assessment
1. Schedules
2. Coordinates with the Head of the Lower Division
Meetings and Committees
1. Attends PFA meetings as the Upper Division Liaison
2. Reports at BOT meetings
3. Serves on the Assessment Committee
4. Facilitates division leadership meetings
5. Serves on the Strategic Leadership team Head of Upper Division
Field Trips
1. Arranges staff assignments for the field trip and classroom coverage

What do we look for in a teacher?

We look for teachers who are flexible in thought, team players, strong in their content areas, and who have a penchant for facilitating success in under-achievers. The ideal candidate posesses two degrees: one in the content area, one in special education.

A North Carolina Teacher's Certificate is preferred.

If you do not carry a North Carolina Teacher's Certificate in the position area you must have a Bachelor's degree in the position area, and twelve (12) college credit hours in professional education coursework would be required within the first two years of employment.
