Tuition: $550 per person

Course Description:

This 16.5-hour Self-Paced Wilson Reading System Introductory Course provides participants with an overview of the Wilson Reading System (WRS) and serves as the prerequisite for WRS Level I Certification Training. This course examines the intensive intervention reading instruction necessary for students in grade two and above with persistent and significant phonological-coding deficits. Participants learn about dyslexia (indicators, misconceptions, neurobiological aspects, and prevalence), typical versus atypical reading acquisition, appropriate student identification and placement, and key components and principles of instruction, including the factors necessary for high-quality program implementation. How to teach phonology (including phonemic awareness), morphology, and orthography in an integrated, explicit, systematic, and multisensory way is demonstrated and practiced during the course. Participants explore the standard ten-part WRS Lesson Plan and practice planning and individualizing a WRS Lesson.

Wilson Language Training® and Wilson Accredited Training Partners have received Accreditation Plus designation by the International Dyslexia Association® (IDA). This designation recognizes that Wilson Reading System® certifications align with the IDA’s Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading.

Noble Academy has been using the highly effective, Wilson Reading System, for many years. It is a research based, systematic, multisensory approach to reading in which the students are taught the rules of English for reading and spelling in an organized and structured way. It was specifically designed for students with reading and language based disorders such as dyslexia.

Wilson Language Training® recognizes that students need to be active participants in their own learning and provides teachers with many materials and methods to incorporate multisensory strategies into the lessons. Jenny Rundle, a teacher in our Lower School says, “For me, it solidifies the rules of our English language and provides more of an awareness of the ‘why’ behind what skilled readers do everyday. So many of us automatically respond to unknown words by applying learned skills, but for most of our students these skills need to be explicitly taught. The WRS assists teachers in knowing how best to help our students learn these skills.”
